With everyone on the internet, more victims will be potential to identity theft and more predators will be able to find private information posted on the internet.

Personal information such as credit card numbers can be stolen if people's online privacy is not secure. Amy Boyer, for example, was killed by a predator who bought Amy’s information online.

People who have not had there identity stolen do not worry about online privacy until it is too late. People realize that the world is an unsafe place once they get there information stolen. On the other hand, Some people think that personal information is useful. One person can find another person's information for non-malicious acts such as finding the previous owner of a used car.

Some companies such as e-commerce companies sell credit card numbers to anybody who is willing to buy them. Some companies allow anybody to search pharmaceutical diagnoses on any search engine. One man was shocked to find that his prostate cancer diagnosis was able to be accessed by just searching it. Also, some advertising websites are storing IP address without letting there consumers know about it.

Most of the top 90 sites were surveyed and had polices that did not allow personal information to be given to third parties. But in under a year, only 30% of those sites were now holding that same guarantee.

To avoid identity theft, people should trust the site in which they are giving their information. They should make sure that the site will not sell their information online and they should be sure to read through the privacy statements that most sites post in which to agree.

A site that you create should not contain any personal information such as phone numbers, email addresses, screen names, home addresses social security numbers and credit cards to ensure that your privacy is private from online predators.
