Piracy

I believe that piracy is a big problem even though I do it all the time. I think that the only reason people pirate software is because they feel that, “Why should I pay for it if I could get it for free without getting caught?” Many people would not go around stealing cars because there are proper authority figures enforcing the law. On the internet there are no authority figures enforcing the law so many people steal software. If there were no authority figures in the world to enforce the law, everyone would be stealing cars. Peoples’ morals and ethics are not enough to stop them from breaking the law; they need authorities to enforce the law.

I think that piracy is not a big deal because everyone else does it. Why would I want to pay for something that I could get for free? It wouldn’t be fair if I had to pay for something that someone else was getting for free. Even though stealing is wrong, many people don’t get caught doing it so why not try it. Companies are not losing money because if one person buys the product then the company is still making money even if that person who bought it is sharing it with a friend. Teenagers who pirate Photoshop would not have the money to buy it anyways so the company is not losing any money.
